Getting started
Do I need an account?
No. Every feature works signed out and everything is stored on your device. An account only synchronises your limits, places, activities, plans and reviews across your own devices.
Why does the app start empty?
On purpose. CloudCrown never shows invented sample data as if it were yours. The onboarding walks you through creating one real activity and one real place, and from there everything you see is your own.
Why does it say “Unknown” instead of a number?
Because the data provider did not return that measurement for that place or hour. Air quality and pollen coverage in particular varies by region. CloudCrown shows Unknown rather than zero, and a window that depends on a missing value is marked Needs Verification instead of being recommended.
Why is no window found?
Every interval in the range broke at least one of your required conditions. Open Find Window and look at the closest interval — it lists exactly which requirement blocked it and by how much. Widening the date range, loosening the hours, shortening the duration, or revisiting that one limit usually fixes it.
Accounts and data
I forgot my password. How do I reset it?
You cannot — CloudCrown has no password reset, and the app warns you about this before you register. There is no recovery route, so the account and anything synced to it are not retrievable.
Your records on the device are unaffected: the app keeps working signed out.
If you want the account deleted, email us from the address on the account and we will remove it.
How do I delete my account?
Settings → Account → Delete Account. Confirm with your password and type DELETE. This deletes the account itself, every synced record, and all sessions; reminders are cancelled and the local copies are erased. Backups are purged within 30 days. It cannot be undone.
If you only want to stop syncing, use Sign Out instead — that keeps both your account and your data.
How do I get a copy of my data?
Settings → Your Data → Export. It produces a JSON file with every place, activity, plan, alert and review, which you can share anywhere iOS allows.
I signed in on a second device and my data did not appear.
Open Settings → Account → Sync Now and check the status line. If it reports an error, that error is the real reason — usually no connection. Nothing is ever discarded on a failed sync; changes stay pending until it succeeds.
If you signed in with a different account than before, local records from the previous account are cleared so two people's data can never mix.
I edited the same plan on two devices. Which one wins?
The most recently edited one. CloudCrown compares timestamps per record, so the newer edit is kept and the older is replaced. There is no field-by-field merge.
Notifications and permissions
My alert rules never fire.
Check three things, in order:
1. Notifications are allowed for CloudCrown in iOS Settings. Without permission rules still evaluate, but nothing can be delivered — the app records this as “held back” with the reason.
2. The rule is not paused, and its quiet hours are not covering the current time.
3. The rule is not in cooldown. Identical results are also de-duplicated, so the same window never notifies you twice.
Open Alert Rules → Check All Rules Now to run the real check immediately and see the outcome. Note that Test Run inside a rule is only a preview and never sends anything.
When are rules actually checked?
Every time you open the app, every time you return to it, and in the background when Background Refresh is on. iOS decides if and when a background check runs and may skip it — that is a platform limitation, not a setting we can override.
Why does it ask about tracking on first launch?
To measure which campaign brought you to the app. Declining changes nothing about how CloudCrown works — the advertising identifier is simply never collected. See the privacy policy for exactly what is sent.
Why does it want my location?
Only when you tap Use Current Location, to save a place. It is never read in the background. Declining blocks nothing: searching for a place by name works the same way. You can also reduce precision to about 1 km or 10 km in Settings → Location Precision.
“Add to Calendar” did nothing.
CloudCrown only ever opens the system event editor and records the event after iOS confirms it was saved. If you closed that dialog without saving, no event was created — which is why the plan still shows no calendar status. If the dialog never appeared, calendar access is off in iOS Settings.
How it works
What is the difference between required and preferred conditions?
A required condition blocks a window outright when it fails — no score can rescue it. A preferred condition only shapes the score, weighted against the others, and the weights must total 100%.
Without any preferred conditions a window can pass or fail, but there is nothing to score, so no number is shown.
Where does the weather data come from?
Open-Meteo, under CC BY 4.0. Every value in the app shows its source, when it was last updated, and a confidence level based on how far ahead the forecast reaches. Tap any measurement to see the raw hourly readings behind it.
Why is my saved plan marked “at risk”?
Because a newer forecast broke one of its required conditions, or dropped its score sharply. CloudCrown only raises this after comparing two actual forecast snapshots — never on a guess. Open the plan to see what changed, then keep it, move to your backup window, choose another, or cancel. Nothing is replaced until you confirm.
Why does an old explanation say “Superseded”?
Because a newer forecast exists. The explanation you saved is kept exactly as it was produced rather than being silently rewritten, so you can always see what you actually agreed to. Tap Use the newest evaluation to re-score it.
Why do Insights need ten reviews?
Below that, any pattern would be noise dressed up as a finding. Once you have ten rated activities, every insight links to the exact plans it came from so you can check it yourself.
